Study about the theoretical aspects of popular, alternative and community communication, emphasizing the re-elaborations processed nowadays. The objective is to recover its concepts in the context of social movements and communities, observing their congruence and distinctions. This is a bibliographical research with a historical/dialectical approach. We come to the conclusión that new practices update the forms of communication of poor segments of society. While the community perspective stands out, alternative journalism takes on various facets made possible by the new information and communication technologies
