Abstract

SANCHEZ-CARRERO, Jacqueline. Young Television Viewers /Young Producers: How Children Participate as Communicative Citizens. Palabra Clave [online]. 2009, vol.12, n.1, pp. 139-151. ISSN 0122-8285.

The article reflects on the children's relationship with the digital media as communicative citizens in today's world. Children have begun to consult Internet, send emails, chat on line, use digital photography, post videos on YouTube and join virtual social networks. However, they must be taught to use Internet in a healthy way and must learn about audiovisual production and critical reception of the mass media. They also need to understand how the emotional factor is managed as a key aspect for attracting audiences. It is crucial that parents and teachers learn about the digital world, so they can help children to navigate their way through today's information society.

Keywords : Children; citizenship; communication; literacy; emotion; audiovisual.
