Abstract

CABEZA, José  and  MONTERO, Julio. The ETA terrorism in the documentary film industry: Two examples of the use of narrative resources in the characterization of the victims. Palabra Clave [online]. 2012, vol.15, n.3, pp.461-481. ISSN 0122-8285.

This article analyses the visual characterization of the victims of ETA in the documentaries Trece entre mil (Thirteen among a thousand) (Arteta, 2005) and La pelota vasca (The Basque ball) (Medem, 2003). The first puts emphasis on the pain of the victims and the second underlines the ideological manipulation of their image. This diverse characterization assigns a different moral and political role to the victims during the process of extinction of ETA.

Keywords : Documentary; Terrorism; Spain; ETA; Visual Representation; Political Conflict.
