Abstract
AMAYA GUERRERO, Angie Paola; BELTRAN PINEDA, Mayra Eleonora and ALFONSO VARGAS, Nadia Catalina. Pectobacterium carotovorum: phytopathogen agent that causes soft rot in potatoes (Solanum tuberosum). Cienc. Tecnol. Agropecuaria [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.2, e1710. Epub May 01, 2021. ISSN 0122-8706. https://doi.org/10.21930/rcta.vol22_num2_art:1710.
Potato (Solanum tuberosum) is a tuber of global importance; it is the fourth crop of agronomic interest in terms of production and cultivated area after rice (Oryza sativa), corn (Zea mays) and wheat (Triticum aestivum). Pectobacterium carotovorum is the causative agent of potato soft rot, considered the most important post-harvest disease because it generates great economic losses at the storage level. The present document provides outline biology, methods for detection, description of Quorum Sensing as a mechanism for the regulation of gene expression of virulence factors, the infective process and current control methods of Pectobacterium carotovorum.
Keywords : antagonists; molecular diagnostic techniques; pathogens; postharvest diseases; quorum sensing.
