MONGE-PEREZ, José Eladio e LORIA-COTO, Michelle. Evaluation of ten melon genotypes grown under greenhouse conditions. Cienc. Tecnol. Agropecuaria [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.3, e2178. Epub 31-Ago-2021. ISSN 0122-8706. https://doi.org/10.21930/rcta.vol22_num3_art:2178.
The yield and quality of ten melon (Cucumis melo L.) genotypes grown under greenhouse conditions were evaluated through six quantitative variables. The data obtained show a wide variability between genotypes with respect to the age at the start of harvest (70 - 88 days after transplant), mean fruit weight (506.37 - 948.68 g), number of fruits/m2 (0.65 - 7.39), yield per area (0.56 - 5.05 kg/m2 ), percentage of total soluble solids (10.35 - 12.29 °Brix), and fruit flesh firmness (16.89 - 40.21 N). The number of fruits/m2 and the yield per area were significantly higher for genotypes JMX-207 (7.39 fruits/m2 ; 5.05 kg/m2 ), Oui (5.69 fruits/m2 ; 3.77 kg/m2 ) and Brilliant (6.09 fruits/m2 ; 3.49 kg/m2 ), and significantly lower for genotype JMX-801 (0.65 fruits/m2 ; 0.56 kg/m2 ). This study provides information to farmers that allows them to select the best genotype to cultivate in their farm, according to the market. All melon genotypes stood out for their high soluble solids content and could be good options for consumers demanding highquality melons.
