Abstract

LOPEZ MEDINA, Segundo E. et al. Morphometry of pod and seed of Phaseolus lunatus L., ecotype pallar mochero. Cienc. Tecnol. Agropecuaria [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.2, e3000.  Epub Aug 31, 2023. ISSN 0122-8706.  https://doi.org/10.21930/rcta.vol24_num2_art:3000.

Phaseolus lunatus is a unique species that characterizes the Moche culture, located on the north coast of Peru and evidence of this are the archaeological representations. Given the existence of a great diversity of ecotypes, it is essential to determine the morphometry of pods and seeds. For this, 200 ripe pods were collected during the first quarter of 2021, these came from two small agricultural plots in the Moche district. Sampling was completely random, selecting 50 experimental units and applying a descriptive statistical analysis. During the experimental phase, the length, width, weight, number of seeds and the weight of seeds in the pod and its length, width and weight were considered as variables. The results were analyzed with the R software, finding that P. lunatus presents the lime form, with black and white seeds. The pod has a length of 12.863 ± 0.471 cm, while the width is 2.567 ± 0.198 cm. The weight of the pods is 6.914 ± 0.693 g, in addition to having 2.667 ± 0.226 seeds per pod, which have a total weight of 4.684 ± 0.560 g. On the other hand, the seeds have a length of 2.193 ± 0.052 cm, a width of 1.380 ± 0.053 cm and a weight of 1.393 ± 0.078 g. It is concluded that the morphometry of the pods and seeds of P. lunatus could be used in future studies to differentiate and characterize the pallar mochero ecotype.
