Resumen

RAZURI MUNAYCO, Blanca et al. First Report of Fasciola hepatica in Creole Horses from the Northern Andes of Peru. Cienc. Tecnol. Agropecuaria [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.3, e3190.  Epub 30-Sep-2023. ISSN 0122-8706.  https://doi.org/10.21930/rcta.vol24_num3_art:3190.

Fascioliasis is an endemic disease in the Andean region and an important human and animal health affliction. Therefore, the present study was carried out in the district of Cajamarca, Peru, to determine the prevalence of Fasciola hepatica in Creole horses older than one year of age. Between October and November, feces were collected directly from the rectum of 237 animals that had not been dosed with any antiparasitic in the last three months. The processing was carried out with the Rapid Sedimentation technique and the initial reading was carried out with a 3X magnification stereomicroscope. The verification was carried out under a microscope at 10X and 40X, obtaining a total prevalence of 3,80±2.4 % (9/237) according to the presence of eggs in the coproparasitological analysis. The results are not alarming but consist of the first report of infection by F. hepatica in horses from the northern Andean area of Peru, and further study of the clinical form of this species is suggested. Also, it is vitally important to implement measures to monitor and asses the role played by creole horses in the reserve or dissemination of this zoonotic parasitosis.
