Abstract

MONSALVO MENDOZA, Edwin. Elections and local authorities. The case of Santo Toribio (Cartagena) 1836. Hist. Caribe [online]. 2012, vol.7, n.21, pp.109-139. ISSN 0122-8803.

This paper aims to study the interference of local authorities in the definition of the elections and their legal skills through the study of the 1836 elections to choose members of the Council of the square of Cartagena, the Provincial House and Congress. Our hypothesis is that local authorities had an important stake in the delineation of the parish election results, effective control exercised in the appointment of members of the Parochial.

Keywords : local power; governor; assembly parochial.
