Abstract

PRADO ARELLANO, Luis Ervin. Networks, mobilization and basis of authority in the Patía Valley, 1820-1851. Hist. Caribe [online]. 2013, vol.8, n.22, pp.75-103. ISSN 0122-8803.

This paper aims to demonstrate the importance of ascription networks built by the leading men of towns in the Patía valley and its environs. In particular, it shows the relevance of such associations for local politics and government, aiming to demonstrate how those associations could be useful to explain collective actions such as the 1851 regional conservative uprising. The paper focuses on the cases of the Córdova Muñoz family, in La Sierra parish district; Juan Gregorio López, in Mercaderes, and Manuel María Delgado, in Patía.

Keywords : local government; social control; social networks; civil war.
