Abstract

PANIAGUA PEREZ, Jesús. Problems in the extraction of pearls and emeralds in the New Kingdom of Granada: the report of Peter Puch (1766). Hist. Caribe [online]. 2013, vol.8, n.23, pp.171-208. ISSN 0122-8803.

In the 18th century the interest of the Crown was reborn for some rather forgotten products, especially for the pearls and emeralds of the Nueva Granada; as a result, the y developed a series of reports. The present, till now unpublished, was conducted by the Italian Pedro Puch, who like other foreigners has settled as technicians at the Court. The author develops a few fundamental points: quality of the product, inefficiency in his exploitation and control of the smugglers.

Keywords : Exploitation; pearls.
