BARRERA ORJUELA, JORGE DAVID. Mayors' role in the Republic of Colombia, 1819-1830. Hist. Caribe [online]. 2023, vol.18, n.42, pp.75-104.  Epub Aug 13, 2023. ISSN 0122-8803.  https://doi.org/10.15648/hc.42.2023.3627.

This article explores the role assigned by the State to mayors in the Republic of Colombia between 1819 and 1830.Moreover, the political role of the mayors is studied, which until today History has only considered them as overseeing the judicial systems in the cities and parishes, so disconnecting them from national politics. It demonstrates how the war against Spain had an impact on the mayors and how their value fluctuated with the country's political stability and instability. Likewise, the way in which the State's attempts to incorporate or separate the mayors from the major political issues, which had an impact on the events that marked the Republic of Colombia, is underlined.
