MARTINEZ-MARTINEZ, Mastoby Miguel; CARDONA-ALVAREZ, José Alberto y BERRIO, Diana Marcela Pérez. Nictitating adenopexy as a surgical alternative for cherry eye in canines. Rev. Med. Vet. [online]. 2018, n.36, pp.37-47. ISSN 0122-9354. https://doi.org/10.19052/mv.5170.
For this research, a descriptive, non-probabilistic study was conducted in canines that were brought for consultation to the Veterinary Clinic of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, at the Universidad de Córdoba, Colombia. This paper describes the medical-surgical follow-up of 36 patients aged between 10 and 18 months, of English bulldog, Cocker Spaniel, Beagle, and Cocker Spaniel mixed breeds, with unilater al or bilateral prolapse of the nictitating gland. On examination, the clinical constant was epiphora, chronic inflammation of the palpebral conjunctiva, and a pinkish, oval, smooth mass, with variable size and with greater intensity on the most exposed surface, which surpassed the free edge of the lower eyelid, located in relation to the nasal palpebral commissure. This research aimed to describe a new surgical technique used to solve a series of 51 cases in 36 patients with prolapse of the nictitating gland in canines, which allowed its repositioning.
