Fine Arts have a special feature that makes us to connect with our emotions and feelings. Therefore, some authors have state that all citizens within a democracy, and in particular, lawyers, judges and legal practitioners, must be in contact with different artistic expressions. It due to that these are able to create feelings of compassion, solidarity and empathy, which according to authors such as Martha Nussbaum and Richard Rorty, are necessary for justice and democracy. In this article I aim to reflect on the relationship between fine arts and law. First I explain the importance to establish a link between law and art. Then I refer to some of the ways in which these two areas are connected. Finally, I discuss the idea which articulates art and law trough the strengthening of fine arts and humanities in education policy to generate empathy. In this article, empathy is defined as the ability (i) to putourselves in the place of other people; (ii) to perceive what other people are feeling and (iii) to connect with the pain of other people.
