This article describes a comprehensive analysis of situations that occur in the teaching-learning process and how one of the key players in that process; namely, the student, has a decisive influence on how the teacher's effectiveness is evalu-ated. The analysis centers on a systematic study of the endogenous and exogenous variables particular to that process, which are examined through quantitative and qualitative scrutiny, with both views unified to arrive at a holistic and systematic model. The method calis for multivariate data analysis from a quantitative perspective, coupled with qualitative research techniques. Students' profiles are established, according to the academic programs in which they are enrolled, and the analysis shows how these situations can vary, depending on the students' academic origin.
