Abstract

RUIZ, Flor Alba  and  SCHUMACHER, Christian. Assessment of University Learning. educ.educ. [online]. 2008, vol.11, n.2, pp.91-105. ISSN 0123-1294.

The Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) is introduced in this article as an instrument to assess the quality of teaching. The experiences derived from its application at the Rosario University School of Human Sciences between 2003 and 2005 are discussed. The data resulting from that application were analyzed to determine if it is an adequate tool for evaluation with sufficient capacity for expression to reliably measure the courses that influence the quality of student learning and to distinguish the differences between individual courses and groups of courses. Being highly structured and diverse in content and methods, the curricula at the School of Human Sciences proved to be ideal for testing course assessment tools. In fact, the study not only showed that CEQ is an expressive and differentiating tool, but also that interesting correlations exist between "good teaching," "appropriate workload" and "skills".

Keywords : Teacher assessment; educational research; measuring tool; quality control; curriculum research.
