Abstract

SCURATI, Cesare. Towards Sports Education: Reflections from Italy. educ.educ. [online]. 2009, vol.12, n.2, pp.121-128. ISSN 0123-1294.

The current image of sports is fundamentally negative. However, the connection between education and sports should be reinforced, while recognizing it as being hypothetic rather than automatic, and subject to the necessary educational controls. Each sport has its own perfection and can contribute to the moral, social, intellectual and ethical development of human beings. The analysis considers some of the areas where that development occurs and underscores a few of the more relevant problems (early competition, education for life, impact of the mass media, etc.) to be addressed for the sake of establishing progress later on.

Keywords : Physical education; motor development; sports; teaching; training; life skills.
