Abstract

GOMEZ-MENDOZA, Miguel Ángel  and  ALZATE-PIEDRAHITA, María Victoria. The Joyful Entry and Irresistible Advancement of Skills in College. educ.educ. [online]. 2010, vol.13, n.3, pp.453-474. ISSN 0123-1294.

This article outlines a set of arguments that responds to some of the aspects associated with the so-called "skills-based approach": a) The sources of what now appears to be an "irresistible advancement" of skills-based logic in the field of education and particularly in higher education. b) The advantages of that approach, specifically its point of view and the opportunities that should not be wasted. c) Its dangers, given the limitations and potential risks with any new teaching approach, which must be identified to lessen their effects. Based on the foregoing points, the article proposes an "intellectual skills-based approach" to college teaching and learning.

Keywords : College education; skills-based training; higher education; learning; teaching.
