Resumen

GORROCHOTEGUI-MARTELL, Alfredo; VICENTE-MENDOZA, Isidora  y  TORRES-ESCOBAR, Germán. Evaluation of a Coaching Process for Administrators and its Impact on the School Climate. educ.educ. [online]. 2014, vol.17, n.1, pp.111-131. ISSN 0123-1294.  https://doi.org/10.5294/edu.2014.17.1.6.

The purpose of this study is to characterize the effectiveness of a coaching program for the administrative team at a school in the metropolitan area of Santiago, Chile, and to reflect on its possible scope and limitations. In terms of methodology, the school climate as perceived by students, parents and teachers before and after implementation of the aforementioned program was evaluated using a Likert-type scale to determine if the program helped to improve leadership on the part of the administrators and if it favored the school climate perceived by the different stakeholders in the institution. A comparison between the results of the first application (prior to the coaching program) and a second measurement showed a positive change in the perception of parents and students regarding the climate at the school and the leadership capacity of its administrative team. However, the school climate score was lower among the teachers evaluated. It was found the administrators learned strategies to perform their managerial role better. As one limitation to be overcome, they also recognized the importance of continuing to work on time management and staff openness to change.
