Abstract

LAFAURIE-MOLINA, Andrea Milena; SINNING-ORDONEZ, Paola Andrea  and  VALENCIA-COBO, Jorge Alberto. WhatsApp and Facebook as Forms of Educational Intervention in Socio-vocational Guidance Processes. educ.educ. [online]. 2018, vol.21, n.2, pp.179-199. Information and communication technologies (ICT) have brought about important changes in every sphere of society, permeating even education. The socio-vocational guidance processes schools offer to their students constitute spaces where ICT and social networks can be used to advantage. This article analyzes the potential ICT and virtual social networks have as a form of educational intervention in sociovocational guidance (SVG) processes with high school students. It shows the results of the design and implementation of a proposal for guidance to strengthen SVG at an educational institution in Barranquilla where these technologies were used. The methodology of the study was mixed, exploratory and descriptive. Methods to collect qualitative and quantitative information from students and the guidance counselor were applied. The main findings show that ICT and virtual social networks used in SVG processes create new forms of interaction and an enriched and participative learning environment in which everyone is encouraged to be self-guided and supportive of their peers. This goes beyond the traditional way in which the SVG process has been carried out at educational institutions.
