GOMEZ-PEDRAZA, Mauricio Alexander y MENESES-BAEZ, Alba Lucía. Academic Talent: A Conceptual Review. Educ. Educ. [online]. 2023, vol.26, n.3, e2634. Epub 27-Ene-2025. ISSN 0123-1294. https://doi.org/10.5294/edu.2023.26.3.4.
This paper utilizes a conceptual narrative review methodology to clarify and propose a concept of academic talent based on various comprehensive models. The synthesis derived from selected texts outlines the existing models, the identification criteria and indices of each model, as well as categories of inclusion, differentiation, specific characterization, and concept classification. Among the eight comprehensive models identified-psychometric, cognitive, performance, domains, sociocultural, developmental, systemic, and neurobiological-academic talent is defined as a high capacity primarily within educational settings. This talent is characterized by outstanding performance either generally or in specific areas, compared to peers, resulting from both learning and mediation. It is developable and mediated by natural disposition, domain knowledge, and contextual and intrapersonal variables of a cognitive and non-cognitive nature, which entails different profiles of development, configuration, and manifestation. Some identification criteria are also suggested that may benefit educational agents and mediators.
