Abstract

CUEVAS-MEJIA, John Jairo  and  GRAJALES-QUINTERO, Jhonny. Erasing the Symbolic Dimension: an Overview on Accounting and the Inhumane in Shoah Literature. Cuad. Contab. [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.33, pp.579-600. ISSN 0123-1472.

This paper researches accounting and its role in erasing the human condition. The paper will draw from Lacanian psychoanalysis, literary theory, sociology and ethnographic analysis and will pursue a critical-interpretative line of research in accounting, in order to study representations of the impact of numeric codification among the Hàftling (prisioners), which is fundamental to Shoah literature. On the basis of this research, the paper will then put forward a characterisation of accounting as a tool for domination, and of its potentially inhumane dimension.

Keywords : Symbolic dimension; numbers; language character; accounting; shoah; inhumanity; World war , 1939-1945; history; Germany; Nazi holocaust; German literature.
