Abstract

SARITA-RENJPGO, Danna; GAVIRIA, Alexander  and  BAQUERO, Olga L.. Construction of an Environmental Sustainability Index and its application in productive parcels in the Municipality of Dagua. Ing. compet. [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.2, 7708.  Epub Sep 15, 2019. ISSN 0123-3033.  https://doi.org/10.25100/iyc.v21i2i.7708.

Studies on processes of environmental degradation require an holistic approach that integrate aspects of the natural behavior of ecosystems with the social organization; processes that can be quanjpgied and qualified with tools such as indexes and indicators.

The structure of the final environmental sustainability index allows analyzing the components of water resources and soil at smallholdings through oriented indicators to evaluate the management and the state of these resources. The technique used in the construction of the index includes: selection of components, indicators and sub-indicators, their respective weights, their measurement and the robustness analysis of the final index.

The data collection was made with three methods: survey form, observation and knowledge´s dialogue in 6 peasant´s smallholdings located in the Centella micro watershed located in the municipality of Dagua, where highly diversified agricultural activities at small scale are mainly developed. Applying the index was obtained that 50% of the plots had high sustainability and the other 50% half sustainability.

Keywords : Environmental index; Soil and water resources; Sustainability indicators; La Centella.
