TIBAQUIRA, Juan E.; CARMONA, Jhoan S.; PIARPUZAN, Diego F. and RESTREPO, Álvaro. Steam economy in the sugar manufacturing process of the Risaralda Sugar Mill. Ing. compet. [online]. 2022, vol.24, n.1, e22011107. Epub Oct 30, 2021. ISSN 0123-3033. https://doi.org/10.25100/iyc.24i1.11007.
This manuscript presents the results of the energy integration project carried out in Risaralda Sugar Mill. We show the stages of the executed project to reduce the steam demanded for the production of sugar. To achieve the proposed objective were intervened the following unit operations: heating raw juice, evaporation of clarified juice, crystallization of sucrose and drying of wet sugar. The project results generated a 19.2% reduction in the specific steam consumption, going from 1,450 a 1,172 lbmvapor/TCM [657.6 a 531.5 kgvapor/TCM]. The benefits are also showed in terms of the increase in the sale of electrical energy by 3.3 GWh delivered to the national grid, as a result of the implementation of this project between 2017 and 2020.
