Abstract

LEON GARCIA, Omar Alexander. Impact of big data analytics capabilities on business innovation. Ing. compet. [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.2, e-21012611.  Epub May 05, 2023. ISSN 0123-3033.  https://doi.org/10.25100/iyc.v25i2.12611.

As the development of new information and communication technologies drives the generation of vast amounts of data, companies are increasingly interested in investing in tools that enable them to leverage it. However, investment alone will not provide a competitive advantage. Instead, companies need to build capabilities to manage the big data volumes that their competitors are struggling to keep up with. In this sense, big data analytics capabilities are a fundamental resource that can drive business innovation from which an organization can benefit. In a study of 91 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bogotá, various descriptive and correlative analyzes were conducted, using multiple OLS regressions according to a research model proposed to estimate the impact of the variables “big data analytic capabilities” and “organizational innovation performance”. It was found that organizations that have higher levels of big data capabilities at the level of data, technologies, technical skills, and data culture have higher innovation performance. The research shows that resources dedicated to big data capabilities give companies tools to drive innovation development and enter new markets.

Keywords : Big data analytics capabilities; data; technologies; technical skills; data culture; innovative performance.
