ROBLES, H. V et al. Functional Transtibial Prosthesis Model: Achilles. Ing. compet. [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.2, e-21112705. Epub 05-Maio-2023. ISSN 0123-3033. https://doi.org/10.25100/iyc.v25i2.12705.
This article presents the design of a novel transtibial prosthesis model aimed at simulating the anatomical behavior of the tibiofibular-talar joint. Existing prostheses have exhibited shortcomings in terms of design, functionality, comfort, and aesthetics. The methodological design of the proposed model is based on the Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) guidelines, enabling an analytical and scaled study encompassing TRL 1, TRL 2, up to TRL 3. The outcome is a proposal for a new design that incorporates a tibiofibular-talar joint, active and passive stabilizers, and a toe joint, thereby enhancing the biomechanics during both static and dynamic phases of gait. This innovative proposal introduces a model to the market that closely resembles the anatomy and respects the biomechanics of the joint, resulting in reduced impact on the residual limb and mitigating gait abnormalities.
