Abstract

CONSTANTINO, Luis Miguel  and  SALAZAR-E, Julián A. ILLUSTRATION OF COLOMBIAN RHOPALOCERA TYPES RECENTLY DESCRIBED (LEPIDOPTERA: NYMPHALIDAE, LYCAENIDAE AND RIODINIDAE) WITH NOTES ON THEIR TAXONOMIC STATUS. Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.1, pp.334-359. ISSN 0123-3068.

The type species (holotypes, alotypes and paratypes) of 34 species of Lepidoptera: Rhopalocera recently described from Colombia by the authors are illustrated in color. These specimens were originally described and published in several national and international journals in black and white photographs. The purpose of this article is to offer updated information on the taxonomic status and diagnose of the species treated based on bibliographic information and revision of the type species deposited in Colombian collections, with color illustrations with high resolution and photographic quality to facilitate their fast identification and recognition. The information presented includes the scientific name, author’s name and description year, with synonyms. The bibliography, type locality, deposition place of the type material, and collector are cited, with comments on their taxonomic status, geographical distribution and phylogenetic relationships.

Keywords : Holotypes; paratypes; alotypes; Lepidotera; Colombia.
