Abstract

This research describes the gonadal maturity stage of some fish species of the Cartagena Bay, with the recollection of 1431 individuals, belonging to 79 species, during a 10-month period, with 11 new species reported in the study area. A female-male ratio of 1.4:1 was found, as well as 270 in juvenile stage and 68 in an undetermined stage. According to percentage distribution, the female-male ratio was recorded for the 18 most representative species as follows: Haemulon bonariense (17.93%) 1.09:1, 2 juveniles and 1 undetermined; Elops saurus (14.1%) 1:4.6 and 162 juvenile; Scomberomorus brasiliensis (9.77%) 1:2.1 and 2 juveniles; Cathorops spixii (7.19%) 6.91:1, 4 juveniles and 4 undetermined; Archosargus rhomboidalis (4.54%) 1:1.37; Chloroscombrus chrysurus (4.12%) 1:1.9, 2 juveniles and 17 undetermined; Bagre marinus (3.42%) 3:1; Oligoplites saurus (2.72%) 2.5:1, 2 juveniles and 1 undetermined; Caranx latus (2.3%) 1 female and 32 juveniles; Mugil tricodon (2.16%) 8.3:1, 1 juvenile and 1 undetermined; Opisthonema oglinum (2.02%) 1.87:1; Mugil liza (1.61%) 1.4:1 and 1 juvenile; Centropomus undecimalis (1.61%) 1:1.5 and 2 juveniles; Ariopsis bonillai(1.4%) 4:1, 1 juvenile and 1 undetermined; Gerres cinereus (1.33%) 3.4:1, 2 juveniles and 2 undetermined; Scomberomorus cavalla (1.33%) 1:1 and 1 juvenile; Caranx hippos (1.19%) 17 juveniles, Trichiurus lepturus (1.12%) 6.5:1 and 1 undetermined.
