HENAO, Efraín Reinel and OSPINA, Kadya Andrea. BENEFICIAL INSECTS ASSOCIATED TO HELICONIA CULTIVATIONS IN THE COLOMBIAN COFFEE-GROWING. Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2008, vol.12, n.1, pp.157-166. ISSN 0123-3068.
A 10-month study was carried out with insects associated to heliconias in the Colombian Coffee-Growing Region with a systematic sampling in 40 producing farms, where 288 samples were recollected corresponding to 10 orders, 43 families, 58 genera and 101 species. The departments object of study were Caldas, Quindío and Risaralda, with 11 species of cultivated heliconias registered, from which Heliconia rostrata and Alpina purpurata showed the best association with beneficial insects. This study presented the diversity of beneficial insects associated with these flower species, demonstrating their wide diversity in this agroecosystem.
