Abstract
ARTETA-BONIVENTO, Reynaldo. CRABS IN THE RIO RANCHERIA DELTA, RIOHACHA (COLOMBIA) (Crustacea: Decapoda: Brachyura). Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.1, pp.140-152. ISSN 0123-3068.
This article describes the decapod crabs that inhabit the Rio Ranchería Delta near the city of Riohacha (La Guajira) and its influence area. A revision on the natural history of the species (Crustacea: Decapoda: Brachyura) found in the different habitats and their abundance was carried out. They were 11 species of crabs belonging to 6 families, the most abundant being Cardisoma guanhumi, Grapsus grapsus and Ocypode quadrata. The Callinectes genus is broadly distributed in different habitats. Lastly, a Paracyclois atlantis specimen was captured, considered an exceptional find in the study area.
