Abstract

ARMESTO, Luis Orlando; GUTIERREZ, Diego Rolando; PACHECO, Rubén Darío  and  GALLARDO, Arley Omar. REPTILES FROM THE MUNICIPALITY OF CÚCUTA (NORTE DE SANTANDER, COLOMBIA). Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.2, pp.157-168. ISSN 0123-3068.

We present a taxonomic listing of the reptile species in the municipality of Cúcuta (Norte de Santander, Colombia), based on records made in the field, literature review and information from two herpetological collections. We recorded 34 reptile species grouped into 2 orders, 13 families and 31 genera. Colubridae was the richest family recording 13 species; only three genera are represented by more than two species. We report 30 new distribution records for Cúcuta and 12 for the Norte de Santander department. We found that the reptiles fauna in Cucuta is more similar to that of the Cordoba department wetlands and Neguanje sector in the PNN Tayrona.

Keywords : reptiles; tropical dry forest; Cúcuta; geographic distribution.
