Abstract

This paper presents a preliminary list of butterflies that livearound Mitu - Vaupés, with report of 312 species and subspecies for this region of the Colombian Amazon. Sampling was conducted in late 2009 and during 2010, for periods of 15 days, daily sampling was done over a period of 5 hours /man beginning at 9 am. The samples were separated from each other by periods of one to two months, there were six visits to the study area during the months of february, april, june, august, october and november, were made along the river Vaupés, ravine Cuduyarí and Yi, roads entering the forest and the communities of Ceima, Pueblo Nuevo, Yararaca, Trubón, Tucandira, Bocas del Yi, Puente Lata, Santa Cruz and Puerto Antioquia, also along the way Mitú - Santa Cruz and Yararaca - Puerto Paloma.
