Abstract

GIRALDO, Alan et al. TERRESTRIAL VERTEBRATES FROM ISLA PALMA (BAHÍA MÁLAGA, VALLE DEL CAUCA). Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.2, pp.183-202. ISSN 0123-3068.

In this work the taxonomic composition of the terrestrial vertebrate fauna that inhabit Palma Island (Bahía Málaga, Valle del Cauca), insular locality that since 2010 is included in the Uramba National Park, are described. Between 2005 and 2010, eleven vertebrate sampling efforts were carried out in Palma Island, being possible to register 7 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, 62 species of birds and 17 species of mammals. From these species only the, Rhinoclemmys nasuta and R. annulata turtles were listed as almost globally threatened by IUCN. However, endemic species of Biogeographic Chocó, migrant species, uncommon species in the surrounding continental areas and representative species of vertebrate fauna from the very-wet tropical forest of the Colombian Pacific were recorded in Palma Island, reason why this location may be a suitable place for local conservation processes.
