VIVEROS-FOLLECO, Yohana Maritza; GUZMAN-PIEDRAHITA, Óscar Adrián  e  VILLEGAS-ESTRADA, Bernardo. DISEASES IN COMMERCIAL NURSERIES OF Musa AAB ‘DOMINICO HARTÓN’ IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CALDAS, COLOMBIA. Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2017, vol.21, n.2, pp.61-80. ISSN 0123-3068.  https://doi.org/10.17151/bccm.2017.21.2.5.

Vegetative propagation of plantain (Musa AAB Simmonds) by infected corms or seedlings has been the main responsible for the dissemination of phytopathological problems. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify the diseases that affect corms and seedlings in commercial nurseries of plantain (Musa AAB) ‘Dominico Hartón’ in the Department of Caldas, Colombia. Samplings were carried out in five nurseries, two located in the municipality of Chinchiná, and the others, in the municipalities of Risaralda, Neira and Victoria. In each nursery, 10% of the seedlings were collected and diseases caused by nematodes, bacteria, viruses and fungi were diagnosed in the Plant Pathology and Nematology laboratories of Universidad de Caldas. Nematodes of the genus Radopholus, Meloidogyne and Helicotylenchus were extracted and identified in the seedlings and corms of four of the five nurseries studied while the genus Pratylenchus was found in a single nursery. In the nurseries in Chinchiná, the incidence of bacteriose caused by Dickeya chrysanthemi was 8%, and Banana streak badnavirus had 20% incidence. In the different organs of the plant, only fungal diseases were found in leaves such as black and yellow Sigatoka, with 28% and 11% incidence respectively, and leaf spot caused by fungi Cordana spp. and Colletotrichum spp., with an incidence less than 5%. The foregoing results demonstrated that the contaminated commercial of plantain planting material is contributing to the dissemination of these phytosanitary problems, threatening Musa crops of this region and the country due to the damage they cause in plant tissues and yield losses.
