Abstract

VILLEGAS-AGUDELO, Daniela; SOTO-GIRALDO, Alberto  and  MEJIA-GUTIERREZ, Luis Fernando. OTHER ALTERNATIVES FOR THE CONTROL OF Diatraea saccharalis Fabricius (LEPIDOPTERA: CRAMBIDAE) IN SUGAR CANE CULTIVATION. Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.2, pp.162-170. ISSN 0123-3068.  https://doi.org/10.17151/bccm.2019.23.2.8.

Objectives:

To evaluate the insecticidal effect of alternative products for the control of D. saccharalis.

Methodology:

The insecticidal effect of pure lime sulphur broth, lime sulphur broth plus ash, lime sulphur broth plus tobacco extract, and lime sulphur broth plus ash plus tobacco extract in concentrations of 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% in D. saccharalis larvae was evaluated.

Main results:

The mixture of lime sulphur broth with tobacco extract in 75% concentration caused the highest mortality of Diatraea larvae and the best effect occurred during the first 24 hours of application of the products.

Conclusions:

The lime sulphur broth mixed with 75% tobacco extract represents a viable alternative to synthetic pesticides for the control of D. saccharalis.

Keywords : Sulfur; alternative control; integrated pest management.
