Abstract

CASTANEDA-CADENA, Edwin David et al. First Record of Arcas imperialis Cramer (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) in Tolima, Colombia. Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2025, vol.29, n.1, pp.193-198.  Epub Nov 05, 2025. ISSN 0123-3068.  https://doi.org/10.17151/bccm.2025.29.1.9.

The butterfly Arcas imperialis has been reported from Mexico to southeastern Brazil. In Colombia, records are limited to 12 departments, primarily in the Pacific Coast, Magdalena Medio, and Amazon regions. This Lycaenidae species is notable for its striking coloration and caudal extensions on the hindwings. Here, we report the first male specimen of A. imperialis (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae, Eumaeini) in Tolima, collected in the José Celestino Mutis Municipal Forest (San Sebastián de Mariquita). The vegetation reflects a transition between tropical dry and humid forests. Photographs of the specimen are included.

Keywords : Arcas imperialis; Papilionoidea; new record; tropical humid forest.
