Abstract

MERCHAN-ESPITIA, Marcela Elizabeth. BIOETHICAL PROBLEMS OF FAMILIES WITH TERMINALLY ILL PATIENTS. pers.bioét. [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.1, pp.43-57. ISSN 0123-3122.

This is a reflective paper introducing the factors that affect families who have terminally ill patients. It is the result of professional experience and a literature review. The following influencing factors were identified: economic, social, emotional and spiritual. The support of the health team should be directed towards each of these factors in an effort to heighten the family's awareness of the fact that they have a loved one who is in the final stage of life, so the patient can be cared for in the best possible way. El apoyo del equipo de salud debe estar dirigido a cada uno de los factores citados para sensibilizar a la familia que tiene un ser querido en la etapa final de su vida, a fin de que sea atendido de la mejor manera posible.

Keywords : Terminally ill; terminal care; bioethical issues; family; equipment; home care services.
