GODOY OLAVE, Jorge; GUERRA PARKER, Catalina; FUENTES DIAZ, Pablo e JOFRE PAVEZ, Pamela. COULD WE TALK ABOUT A NARRATIVE DENTISTRY?. pers.bioét. [online]. 2024, vol.28, n.1, e2814. Epub 09-Jul-2024. ISSN 0123-3122. https://doi.org/10.5294/pebi.2024.28.1.4.
Although the healthcare model has evolved, it tends to displace the importance of including the patient's narrative and inherently tries to standardize the needs of sick people. Narrative medicine allows us to interpret and communicate our patients' stories through active listening, valuing the complexity of the human being. Meanwhile, in evidence-based health, the experiences seen in an individual can be extrapolated to other patients regardless of their history, reducing much of the narration to an objective classification in the medical record, when integrating the narrative paradigm in the care of sick people should not be ruled out. We believe that teaching narrative skills and scientific knowledge to dentistry professionals will make it possible to strengthen the clinical relationship with patients, with values such as empathy and compassion, reducing the suffering linked to the objective side of their diseases.
