A native Trichoderma sp. fungus strain was evaluated in 13 substrates and two solid fermentation processes. Solid substrates based on Artocarpus incisa seed (breadfruit) were used as well as agro-industrial waste, such as rice and cotton husks. The best spore production was recorded in substrate consisting of cotton husks (enriched with molasses solution and 40% Artocarpus incisa seeds) returning 2,1 x 108 spore/g to 8,38 x 108 spore/g spore concentration values. While that lowest spore concentrations were presented in rice husks, EA-5 (cotton husks enriched with 1% molasses -1% urea solution (5:1) and E-FP-1 substrates (60% cotton husks - 40% Artocarpus incisa seeds) significantly differed from the other substrates tested as they presented the highest concentrations. These two substrates were thus selected for evaluating two solid fermentation-based Trichoderma sp. spore mass production processes: artisanal and semi-industrial; the latter was characterised by air being supplied at 1,6 lb/min pressure. Spore concentration was determined in each substrate by counting conidia/g. harvested dust in a Neubauer chamber, obtaining 2,53 x 109 spore/g concentration for the artisanal process and 2,3 x 109 spore/g concentration for the semi-industrial one. No statistically significant differences were found for these processes, indicating that the air applied for the semi-industrial process had no outstanding effect on improving sporulation regarding the artisanal process.
