This paper examines from a diachronic, structural and endogenous view the South American urbanization process, taking as main analytic elements the settlements' structure and the urban dynamics, occurred from the pre-Columbian development stage, to the contemporary period, the neoliberal order. For that purpose, a qualitative methodology is developed that uses the historical, geopolitical and cartographic documental information review as research techniques, and includes fieldwork and photography as primary sources.
