Abstract

This paper shows a temporal space synthesis on the occupation and territorial transformation in Soacha, Cundinamarca, considering the pre-hispanic and colonial periods. For this, the geo-historical method, concepts of urban geography (situation, site, function and plane), tools of thematic and historical cartography, Geographic Information Systems-GIS, secondary sources and other disciplines are used. As far as the structure of the text, it begins with the description of the geographic situation in Soacha and the populating process of the hunter gatherers and Herrera and Muisca culture is contextualized, which denotes life patterns, production, appropriation and territorial organization. Subsequently, it accentuates in the colonial stage, in the social change and temporal space given in the contact between natives and europeans, analyzing the forms of emplacement emerged in the "encomienda", the "resguardo", the state and the indigenous town, employing for the latter system the notions of site, function and plane that allow understanding the morphological origin of the city of Soacha.
