The argument of this article is based on analysis and reflection using the socio-spatial optic I call the localization of memory to help us unpack the layered frames of reference bound up in the construction of both the narrative and symbolic content of memorial sites. This work analyzes the artistic intervention Las huellas de fuego to deepen our understandings of how commemorative art-making is articulated, as well as the politics and memories deployed in the socio-spatial practices of this specific memory site. These threads of sensation construct a memorial narrative grounded in the place itself that functions as a visual device for signification; therefore we use as a methodology the analysis of secondary sources like photographs and materials elaborated by the Direction of Human Rights as well as the information obtained through exploratory, in-depth interviews and participant observation.
