Resumen
MASTRANDREA, Aldana y SERENO, Claudia A.. Contributions and limitations of the Geography of Perception in the Latin American context: towards a renewed perceptual approach. Perspectiva Geográfica [online]. 2025, vol.30, n.1, 16856. Epub 01-Ene-2025. ISSN 0123-3769. https://doi.org/10.19053/uptc.01233769.16856.
The observation of a trend oriented towards the integration and diversification of multiple perspectives in perception studies, along with the existence of marked theoretical and methodological contradictions inherent to its approach and the temporal discontinuity of scientific advancements related to this line of research, demonstrates a growing complexity and uncertainty regarding the future of this branch of geography. This article explores the main contributions and limitations of Perception Geography in the Latin American context in order to establish, from a critical perspective, a renewed perceptual approach within the geographical field. It also aims to encourage discussions and exchanges related to the development of established traditions in perception studies, as well as the emergence of new approaches and research frameworks. The methodology is qualitative and initially involved a thorough literature review based on previously stipulated criteria according to the PRISMA framework (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses). It can be observed that studies utilizing this analytical perspective have generally focused on traditional and descriptive approaches. There is a notable need to adopt a dialogue-centred transdisciplinary approach to address the various threads of knowledge, representations, and symbolic constructions of reality. This review may serve as a significant starting point for future studies that wish to consider perception as an analytical category, exploring this direction and incorporating new proposals and research lines.
