Abstract

ZAPATA, Luis Felipe. Evolution, brain and cognition. Psicol. caribe [online]. 2009, n.24, pp.106-119. ISSN 0123-417X.

This paper presents a review of the brain evolution process in the last four million years, and focuses, in the second part, on the brain modularity concept, the role of language, working memory and cognitive fluency, through the path of the primitive mind to the modern mind. It refers to the executive functions and the theory of mind. It is based upon the complexity theory which explains that mind is emergent as an interaction property, in this case, due to the brain neural interaction.

Keywords : Evolution; brain; cognition; working memory; cognitive fluency; cognitive flexibility; homo linage.
