Abstract
BRITO, JHÉSSICA PAULA DE; ARAUJO, LUDGLEYDSON FERNANDES DE and PEREIRA BELO, RAQUEL. Retirement and Aging: Study of Social Representations among Elderly Women. Psicol. caribe [online]. 2021, vol.38, n.2, pp.238-255. Epub Dec 13, 2021. ISSN 0123-417X. https://doi.org/10.14482/psdc.38.2.305.4.
This research aimed to identify and compare the social representations of older women about retirement and aging. Twelve elderly women with 67 years (SD=5) from groups developed in the Parnafba city -PI, Brazil participated in the study. Data were obtained through a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Free Word Association Technique - TALP, using descriptive statistics and Semantic Networks criteria, respectively, according to Vera-Noriega (2005), to analyze the collected data. The results, in both groups, indicated that positive and negative social representations anchored in the aspects of senescence for aging, and retirement is anchored in the idea of financial support. The data from this study highlight the idiosyncratic conception of aging, as well as the need to take a new look at the concept of old age, public health policies, work, retirement and services for the public in question. It is expected that the data presented will serve as subsidies for future investigations with actions of psychosocial interventions and citizenship promotion aimed at referred public.
