Paralympic sport had its origins from an adapted sport for therapeutic purposes for people with disabilities and has now consolidated as a high performance sport, ruling under the same parameters of the Olympic sport. Each time the gap that divides these two scenarios is closing and we are witnesses of how everyday new initiatives that provide for the future integration of the two systems are developed. This article illustrates and invites to reflect on the development of the Paralympic sport system, the problems that it is facing today and the future prospect of its development.
