Abstract

RAMIREZ BRAVO, Roberto. Discourse Markers But and ¿Not? in the South Andean Speech of Nariño-Colombia. Folios [online]. 2019, n.50, pp.65-82. ISSN 0123-4870.  https://doi.org/10.17227/folios.50-10222.

This paper examines the use of the markers but and ¿not? in the Southern Andean speech of Nariño; it describes these words, considering the semantic and pragmatic levels in different communicative situations and explains the conventionality of the same in everyday discursive structures. This study is descriptive and develops along the framework of Communicative Ethnography, in a context that designates the main semantic meanings and pragmatic common forms of but and ¿not? Their oral use transcends the functions of conjunction and adverb respectively.

Keywords : discourse markers; but; ¿not?; Southern Andean speech of Nariño.
