DA SILVA OLIVEIRA NETO, José  e  JUNIOR FERREIRA MOURA, James. Internalized Homophobia: A Systematic Review of Studies in University Settings (2000-2020). Folios [online]. 2023, n.58, pp.3-16.  Epub 27-Jan-2024. ISSN 0123-4870.  https://doi.org/10.17227/folios.58-15905.

Internalized homophobia (IH) is a complex psychosocial phenomenon that affects the lives of young gays and lesbians in various contexts, including the university. This article is a systematic review of literature on the theme of internalized homophobia in university contexts with young people. It has as its main objective to perform an RSL about the theme presented. To achieve this, we conducted a search of articles produced between the years 2000 and 2020, on a national and an international platform, namely Scielo and Scopus. We analyzed scientific articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish that dealt with internalized homophobia in university contexts and/or with young people. Thus, contributions such as dissertations, books and thesis studies were not included. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, we collected 22 articles. Based on the findings, we concluded that there is a higher concentration of research on ih in the global north, although in recent years there has been an important growth of research in the global south. Moreover, we noticed a dissonance about the meaning of the term IH, which varied from more individualistic meanings to more contextualized perspectives. Finally, it is also worth noting that a significant number of the productions presented practical alternatives to the problems explored and presented.
