This paper presents a perspective of the importance of organizational planning processes. It also describes and reviews their implementation in research institutions. To this end, it presents both a theoretical discussion as well as an analysis of research centers and groups. The last section emphasizes on the seemingly existing relationship between the planning process of each center or group and the consolidation process as an institution.
