Abstract

This article presents a study of the economy in the machining process, for: minimum cost criterion and maximum production rate. Three typical materials in the cutting tools were analyzed: high speed steel, cemented carbide and ceramic. The ceramic tool presented minor cost per unit and minor duration of the cycle, that the cemented carbide and that the high speed steel. The disposable inserts presented minor time per cycle and cost per unit that the regrindable tooling.
