Abstract

OLTRA COMORERA, VÍCTOR. The complexity of knowledge: challenges for its effective creation and transfer in the innovative organization. estud.gerenc. [online]. 2012, vol.28, n.spe, pp.57-80. ISSN 0123-5923.

Effective knowledge creation and transfer are essential to foster organizational learning and innovation. This article explores two cases of knowledge management projects in Spanish companies. Three problematic features knowledge -namely dispersion, ambiguity and disruptiveness- build the conceptual framework. The study results reinforce the need of carefully designing the whole process of knowledge management project development: (i) purpose of the knowledge management strategy, (ii) creation of the knowledge management-project team and distributing responsibilities, and (iii) awareness of idiosyncratic organizational requirements and constraints, and of current learning processes and their potential interactions with the new knowledge management systems.

Keywords : Knowledge complexity; knowledge creation; knowledge transfer; organizational learning; innovation.
